Intuitive Eating Counseling

The idealization of thinness doesn’t come from a health standard, but from cultural expectations. When you look in the mirror, you turn to the side and you don’t like what you see. You’ve tried diet after diet. You blame yourself for giving up on dieting or for overeating. Maybe you are in the middle of food restriction and doing well, but wish you were happier. You’re tired of dieting and want to make peace with your body, no matter what the scale says.

You can learn to accept your body, build a better relationship with food, and reject the diet mentality with Intuitive Eating.

A woman with blonde hair in a bob cut, wearing a black off-shoulder top and black pants, is sitting in front of a mirror that creates a reflection of her on the left side of the image. The setting appears to be indoors with metallic lockers or panels behind her.
Intuitive Eating is built on the philosophy of 10 Principles that help men and women stop the cyclical patterns of diet and weight gain. Instead of promoting weight loss, intuitive eating promotes attunement to your own hunger needs through interoceptive awareness with your body. The goal of Intuitive Eating is for clients to accept and make peace with their body at its healthy size, and to develop a relationship with food that allows food to do what it is only supposed to do: nourish your body.
The 10 Principles of Intuitive Eating made by founders Elyse Resch and Evelyn Tribole are:

Challenge The Food Police

We look into how food is being used in your life in ways other than to nourish your appetite. Some ways might include to suppress emotions, to reward you, or to appease others. I also work with clients to give themselves unconditional permission to eat by deleting food rules.
